Contemplative Days

This weekend, Brother Aidan is offering a parish retreat in Middlebury, VT.

This week, we observed Contemplative Days from Tuesday to Sunday. It was a great way to enter into the hopeful waiting of Advent. During contemplative days, we observe silence round the clock, a simplified worship schedule and a lightened workload.

We emerged from greater silence this Sunday morning to celebrate Br. Robert Hagler's 75th birthday with a cake after Eucharist.

Advent joys. From top left, clockwise: Br. Bede seated and Br. Robert Hagler contemplating his birthday cake; Br. Robert blowing the candles; two lit candles on the Advent wreath in the church; the Afvent wreath glowing in the pre-Vespers penumbra.

May you also enjoy some quiet and silence in the expectancy of Advent.
