Beginning of Lent

This weekend, our Novices, our Junior and our Formator are away at an inter-novitiate formation weekend at Mount Alvernia, in Wappinger Falls, NY. It's noticeable when six men, including our younger ones are all gone at the same time. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, they say.

Br. Ephrem returned from his family visit in Louisiana, in time for Ash Wednesday despite the snow storm.

Many colleges and universities have a reading week at this time. As a result, we have had a lot of students visiting with a chaplain or member of staff. We had groups from Yale, Princeton and Columbia this week.

About twenty of our Associates were with us this week for the winter Associates retreat. Our theme was "Teach Us To Pray." Six Brothers presented a mode of prayer each over the four-day retreat; a smorgasbord of prayer!

On Thursday, we had a reception in honor of our Associates in Pilgrim Hall to which all guests were invited.

Anthony, Cheryl Kuchler, of Wilmington, DE; Philippa Shepher, of Chevy Chase, MD, and a Yale student; Br. Robert Leo with Cheryl Kuchler and Nancy Grear.

On Friday, we received two new Associates during our Eucharist; Walter Liefeld, of Coatesville, PA, and the Rev. Kristian Kohler, of Brighton, MA.
